NSW Builder R W Stidwill Constructions wins
2011 Australian Home of the Year.
The 2011 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards were unveiled recently at the building industry's prestigious awards ceremony held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.
The HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards remain the ultimate platform to showcase the talents of the nation's top builders and designers.
R W Stidwill Constructions has taken out the 2011 HIA-CSR Australian Home of the Year Award.
It also won the 2011 HIA Australian Custom Built Home of the Year for the house built on Pittwater's Scotland Island. This award, partnered by Hagemeyer Appliances, recognises excellence in construction and design.
The judges were impressed with this pavilion-style house that was mostly built from raw materials.
The house design was unique to meet the requirements of the island site and the choice of natural materials, particularly the recycled timber and attention-to-detail has produced a warm and liveable ambience.
The environmentally sustainable features, including its orientation, uses of clear and opaque glass as well as louvres, gives it ventilation and abundance of natural light. Water harvesting and treatment provides off-the-grid sewer irrigation, and grey and potable water.
HIA Managing Director Shane Goodwin said the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards are the pinnacle of housing awards and reflects the increasingly diverse and competitive Australian housing industry.
